I keep shopping for tractors... I mean, just like I did with cars, I’ll spend one or two years before I decide to pull the trigger on one, and I’ll keep it for a long time (The FieSTa went out of extended warranty last week... too many miles), but the looking is fun/stressfull
Current contender:

It’s actually SMALLER than it looks... it looks HUGE, but it’s really only a little longer and almost the same height to the stack tip as our current Zetor 5211...

What’s your thought on the John Deere 6120m ? Work just got one of those and a F650 dump I’m trying to come with an excuse to take and play with.

My only question when shopping for tractors:
Does it tract?

A bit bigger than I need, and well outside of my theoretical budget (under $50K is where I’m looking, the 6210 STARTS at $115K), so I have not really looked into them... They appear to be German Deeres, not American, which is fine I guess... The old Lanz factory makes fine green tractors... and has for many years. HOWEVER, it’s a modern JD, and that means a complex electronic chassis and engine control system that works great until it breaks, and when it does the software is completely locked down and it MUST be serviced by a JD dealer or authorized tech. “No User Serviceable Parts Inside” as they say, and that alone would keep me from buying one. It’s probably a good machine though, JD makes good tractors as long as you don’t want to do your own service.

So what are you farming? Soybeans, corn, llamas, wacky weed? I always wanted to drive a giant combine.

well, yeah, I always like the big ‘ol JI Case 500s...
but I want something with a cab and that’s not worth more as a collectible ;)
These late Minneapolis Molines are kinda awesome too...

That is some serious cattleman’s (sheepman’s?) sportscar action. Just need to know if you got all the goodies in the cab. 7.1 surround sound? In-dash microwave? “Magic Fingers” (ala Motel 6) seat? 8-track player? (oops. too much.)
My Kubota 35hp utility tractor has basically been melting apart in the sub-tropics here, and now I’m pining for something else. Love tractors. But holy damm do they rot here. I want a DeLorean bodied Kubota engined Ferrari designed Case built mini-monster. (Case because grandpa was a Case dealer. Plenty good other vendors.)
Some of my best memories out of my childhood related to crawling around equipment at state fairs (Minnesota) and Steam Engine Days (random Wisconsin townships) when they used to let you do it.

And you’d have a better shot at it being Ferrari designed if it’s a Case.

My grandpa had a Case like that, it was a creamy tan color though and the rear fenders were smaller. As far as I know my uncle still uses it for baling.

Being a Zetor, its not much of a sports car actually ;) some of the major selling points include the large-displacement under-stressed engine, low tech engine management, and extremely simple and rugged ancillary systems. It’s built like a 40-year old tractor, but brand new and with a comfy cab and better hydraulics. In short it’s built like a Zetor ;) Tough as nails, and easy/cheap to fix when it does break. If i could find a CL60 I’d be even more interested (the same tractor, but without a turbo) but the 80s by far the most common in the US and theres a dealer in Arkansas who hoarded all the pre-emissions 2016s (like 80% of the imports) and is selling them of with a loader for under $40k... Its just a fantastic bargain... It may not have fancy electronics or a million buttons and switches and have automotive-quality paint and panel finish but its tough, efficient, capable, and you can fix it with a hammer, and a pipe wrench.

Re state fairs and steam/antique shows: Me too. Except Vermont.
Re your ideal tractor: Kubota does make some nice engines, but I hear the tier IV compliant ones have a bitch of a time with cold weather and EGR system failures... Actually, I hear that about almost everyone’s tier IV compliant engines, with the possible exception of Case/New Holland and the bigger Deeres. Thats a reason the stone-age Zetor appeals to me... On a tangent again... I just want anything with a Detroit Diesel, ala Oliver/Cockshutt...

I can totally appreciate that viewpoint and in fact, will in the future. My environment eats everything, so simple is always better.
But kudos to you for pointing out this brand. I’m thinking I’m acquiring something new/used in the next couple years.
